The File Taxes tab is your personalized gateway to filing taxes with Keeper. You can get started with the touch of a button. And the process is completely automated, easy to follow, and fast. Best of all, there's no need to be a tax expert. The filing flow will walk you through the process of uploading your forms and documentation. After that, our team of tax assistants does the heavy lifting so you don't have to.
What does this article cover?
Onboarding
When you start filing your taxes we'll ask a series of questions to determine if Keeper is capable of filing for your tax situation. Select anything that applies as this will help customize your tax filing experience.

Once you answer all questions, we'll let you know if we're able to support your specific tax situation.
When you're in the filing flow you'll be able to enter your:
- Household details
- Income
- Federal credits
- State taxes
- Submit

submit your tax return for review
Household details
Household details is where you enter:
- Your information
- Your spouse's information
- Your address
- Dependents information (if any)
Income details
Income details is where you report different types of income:

- Freelance income
- Employee income (W-2)
- Investment income
By tapping on "See more" you'll be able to enter:
- Gambling income (W-2G)
- Unemployment income
- Interest income
- Dividend income
- Retirement income
Federal credits
Under this section we go over federal tax credits and deductions:
- Standard deduction
- Home office
- Vehicle expenses
- Healthcare
- Student loans
- Child tax credit
Tap on "See more" to view additional tax credits or deductions:
- EITC
- Quarterly taxes
- HSA
- Capital loss
- IRA
- Student tuition
- Childcare
- Charity
- Physical inventory
- Homeownership
- Renewable Energy
- Teaching
State taxes
Once you've completed all previous sections, you'll be able to complete your state taxes. This is where you tell us about the state/s you've lived in and worked in.
By tapping on the plus icon you can add additional states that you've lived or worked in.
Submit
When all sections are complete and you seeing in all sections you're able to start the process to submit your taxes for review.
This is where you can enter your Identity Protection PIN if the IRS sent you one.
You'll see an overview of your:
- Write-offs
- Personal information
- Income
- Credits
- States
If everything looks good, tap on "Submit to review!"
We'll review your tax return for completeness and text you once it's complete. You'll be able to review your tax file and filing amounts in-app before submitting to the IRS. We won't submit your return without your approval.
